Being a student is not an easy thing in the 21st century. With the advancement of technology, the students are expected to make presentations after presentations, leaving no time for themselves. So after a busy day, the question that lingers in all their heads is – ‘what do we eat?!’ They resort to the quickest possible take-away food that is available. Yes folks, if you thought of ‘Shawarma’, then you are absolutely right.
In the city of Mangalore today, we get to see ‘Shawarma’ stalls coming up in almost every street, round every corner and in every neighbourhood. Shawarma is a very famous fast-food across the Middle East and Europe. It is made up into a sandwich wrap or roll with pita bread or rolled up together with grilled chicken, vegetables and garlic sauce. Today, we see pickled vegetables and French-fries being served along with it.
Let us now see how we can make a very simple yet tasty version of this street food in our own kitchen.
½ a teaspoon of garlic powder
½ a teaspoon of cinnamon
¼ of a teaspoon of nutmeg
1 teaspoon of Paprika
1 teaspoon of cardamom
1 teaspoon of salt
Boneless chicken of thighs or breasts, cut into strips
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Readymade pita bread
How to Make:
*Mix the spices together in a bowl.
*Add the chicken pieces and toss, and then drizzle olive oil into it.
*Heat the pan and grease it.
*Place the spiced chicken onto the pan. Turn the chicken over a few times, until cooked through.
*Remove the chicken and place in inside the pita bread along with finely sliced cabbages, tomatoes and garlic sauce.
*Can be also served with pickled carrots and French-fries.
