Bangalore, August 20: Tension prevailed for sometime at Bardanahalli in Karnataka on Sunday when farmers of Kurnool district made a vain bid to stop their counterparts in the neighbouring state from diverting Tungabhdra water.

Farmers of both states had a heated argument but police intervened and calmed down the groups. Ryots of Bardanahalli village in Bellary district, Karnataka have been diverting the water flowing through the low-level canal (LLC) from Tungabhadra. As part of it, a week ago, the farmers closed down the sluice crest gates.
