Bangalore, February 24: Thumbing their collective nose at the government's drive to ban cow slaughter, various Dalit organisations and intellectuals led by Samatha Sainik Dal on Tuesday, February 23, protested in front of Town Hall, Bangalore, claiming that consuming cow meat was their right.
They organized the protest differently by cooking and eating beef in public. They were also shouting anti-government slogans constantly.
Addressing the gathering, AK Subbayya, Convener, State Intellectuals Forum, said that the BJP led state government’s drive to ban cow slaughter is part of its anti-farmer policy.
“If you want to prevent the rising suicide cases among farmers, you have to encourage beef eating and its export”, he suggested.
“If you want to encourage dairy farming, grant permission to open new slaughter houses in every corner of the state”, he added.
He went on to say that having beef is one of their basic 'rights', and the government shouldn't interfere with one's eating habits.
"We eat beef. We decide whether we want to continue or not. Who are they (government) to decide?" he questioned.
