
Karwar, June 20: The thunderstorm and lightning that pounded all of Karwar taluk of Uttara Kannada district Tuesday morning have left a temple of a local deity completely destroyed.
The idol of the ‘Baagila Palaka’, the main deity of the temple, which according to its devotees, guards the borders of the village, also damaged as a result.
The temple located at Melina Mekheri village on the outskirt of Karwar was renovated in last April and a new building was built.
Local residents, who hesitated to come out of their houses at least for half an hour after experiencing powerful lighting and thunder on Tuesday morning, said that at around 8:30 am there was a terrible lightning strike.
As the temple was directly struck by the lightning entire building was collapsed before own eyes of villagers. The idols in the temple were seen debris.
Additional Deputy Commissioner K H Narasimhamurthy and Tahashildar Sayyad Mulla along with local police visited the spot.
The authorities have assured the villagers to reconstruct the destroyed temple at the earliest under Arcadian scheme.

Worship the creator, not things made by your own hands, it will be destroyed today or tomorrow.
Now the Villagers to protect their faith they will say for long time there was no activities in the temple so god was angry and he destroyed it. So we need to build a new one spending few more lacks...
Same here with our Muslim brothers, trying to build mosques worth crores. God never asked for it, This money should not be spent on building structures in gods name, could be used to clear out poverty in our communities and build the structure of a educated and wealthy nation.
