Daiva worship has enriched Tulu culture, says folk scholar

Mangalore, July 8: The tradition of worshiping daivas has enriched the Tulu culture, said folklore expert Ganesh Amin Sankamar.

 

He was speaking at the Tulu Academy’s monthly ‘chavadi’ on the topic “The contribution of Daivaradhane in the development of the language ” here on Saturday.

 

“A language does not develop only through reading and writing. The tradition of worshiping daivas is at the base of the development of Tulu language. It has also contributed immensely to harmony. Efforts should be made to save the culture of Daivaradhane,” he said.

 

Another folklore expert Dr. Y.N. Shetty, Madhyastha Venkappadas Enmur of Chelyaru Khandige Beedu Daivasthana, N.K. Salian and others spoke. President of the academy Umanath Kotian presided over the function. Registrar Chandrahasa Rai was present.

 

Daivanarhataka Gudda Panara Mulur was felicitated on the occasioni. Navneeth Shetty Kadri compered the programme.
