Mangalore, July 17: Vittala Malekudiya, who spent more than four months in jail on charges of links with naxals during the second semester of his Mass Communication and Journalism course, has been denied admission to third semester by Mangalore University.

According to Dr Waheeda Sultana, Chairperson, Department of MCJ, Vittala had been denied admission on grounds of shortage of attendance.

“Vittala has an attendance less than 52 per cent in all subjects while the required attendance is 75 per cent” Dr Sultana said in a letter.

The chairman has said that he would have to repeat the second semester before entering third semester.

It can be recalled here that he was allowed to write second semester exams despite running short of attendance.

Meanwhile, Democratic Youth Federation of India and Vittala Defence Committee have condemned the decision of University. A meeting would be held on July 20 in this regard, said Muneer Katipalla of DYFI.

I am very disappointed to hear that my fellow tribesman Shri, Vittala has been subjected to such a situation by the state police of Karnataka, ANF and now, the University of Mangalore. I have first hand knowledge of the heinous crime meted out to the poor tribals in Dakshina Kannada, especially Belthangady Taluk. In one instance, I got to see plantains and arca nut plants were literally butchered by the police force for allegedly harbouring naxals. Their months' long effort and sweat was grounded in a matter of few hours by the administration. This should be condemned one and all. Action should be taken in accordance with The Attricities against SC/STs (Prevention) Act against those responsible for falsely implicationg Shri. Vittala.
This is one of the reasons why people from the lowest rung are forced to embrace naxalism. Does anybody hear? No chance!!!!!!
