Mangalore, August 17: On the last Friday of the holy month of Ramdan all the city mosques were overflowing as Muslims congregate in huge numbers to offer Juma prayer in the afternoon.
A good turnout of people gathered at Thaqwa Masjid Pumpwell, Kendra Juma Masjid Bunder, Eidgah Masjid Lighthill and Noor Masjid near Milagres here.
Heads bowed in obeisance and palms cupped in supplication, they prayed to the Almighty with sheer devout and determination.
According to M B Abdurrahman, one of the Joint Secretaries of Noor Masjid which is located at the heart of the City, more than 3,000 people offered Jum’a prayers. He said Imam Azeez Moulavi has elaborately spoken on the benefits of Ramadan and Thowheed in his Jum’a Khuthba (sermon). Azeez Moulavi also delivered sermons everyday in the Ramadan after the Zuhr Namaz, he said.
He said arrangements were made at the upstairs of the Masjid for those who sat for Ei’thikaf .
Abdul Rasheed Haji, Treasurer of Thaqwa Masjid Pumpwell, Kendra Juma Masjid Bunder and Eidgah Masjid Lighthill said Thaqwa Masjid, Kendra Juma Masjid and Eidgah Masjid witnessed considerable gathering as Muslims offered their last Friday prayers of the holy month of Ramadan. He said Kerala based Thahir Saqafi addressed the gathering at Thaqwa Masjid and Mangalore Qazi Thwaqa Musliyar delivered sermons at Kendra Masjid, Bunder.
He said on the day of ‘Lailatul-Qadr’ people offered special prayers from 2.30 am to 4.00 am besides offering regular prayers.
Special prayers and sermons were held at different mosques around the city.
The last Friday of Ramadan is the culmination of the holy month of fasting and prayer, before the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which will fall on Sunday or Monday depending on lunar movements.
