Bhatkal, August 17: Bhatkal police have arrested a murder convict who escaped from the Central Prison of Dharwad on August 16 allegedly assaulting the guards who were manning at the Main Gates.
31-year-old Haneef Byari, a resident of Chikmagalur (prisoner No.1871) was serving life term after being convicted in a murder case. He was imprisoned in Chikmagalur and Shimoga jails before he was shifted to Dharwad.
Police also arrested Sunil Siddappa Meti for helping Haneef to escape from the jail. They duo were arrested when they were moving to Udupi through Bhatkal.
