Mangalore, August 18: With the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr round the corner, Muslims could be seen shopping for new clothes everywhere. It is perhaps the best time for the shopping maniac. The markets which have been decked up for the special occasion are alluring shoppers to indulge in a shopping spree and purchase items of their choice.

Since wearing new clothes is advised on Eid, innumerable Muslims could be seen at the garments shops buying new clothes. Busy with the last minute shopping, Burqa clad women who had come out of their houses to make festive purchases could be seen shopping for the festival.

Tokyo Market in Hampankatta, City Centre Mall, Falnir Road and Central Market remain jam-packed with people, with the teeming crowd moving from one extreme of the market to another. And even after finding that there is no inch of space to move, the shoppers refuse to give up and slowly negotiate their way to reach to their favourite shop.

All the shopping complexes have been colourfully decorated to attract customers.

“Due to weekend and RAMZAAN shopping, heavy traffic at KSR ROAD, Hampankatta, Central Market and Falnir road. Pls avoid vehicular traffic at said places (sic)”read a status in the Facebook page of Mangalore City Traffic Police.

Abdurrazzak, who owns a prominent garment shop, said business increased by at least 30 to 35 per cent in the Eid festival.

Amid hectic preparations, Muslims are waiting for the moon to be sighted.
