Mangalore, September 9: As part of its efforts to promote Beary culture and heritage, the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy on Sunday flagged off a Beary folk rally which is expected pass-through several districts of the state.

Academy president Rahim Uchil, who formally flagged off ‘Halli Hallig Beary Sandal’ (Beary folk rally to villages), in front of the Academy office in the city, said that this unique programme would introduce the glory of Beary cultural to the people in villages.

The rally comprises several folk teams such as ‘Oppana Paat team’, ‘Kolkali team’, ‘Duff team’ and ‘Singers team’.

The rally later proceeded towards Bantwal. It will visit 10 villages in Bantwal taluk.

The tour will continue every second and fourth Sunday for the next four months, where the rally will proceed to various parts of the state such as Udupi, Hassan, Shimoga, Sakleshpur, Belur and Bangalore, said Mr Uchil.

The aim of such a programme is to preserve the literature and culture of Beary language, which should reach out to people in all villages, said Mr Uchil.
