Mangalore April 22: World Earth Day 2010 was celebrated at P A College of Engineering, Mangalore in association with First year Engineering Students Association (FESA), on Thursday, April 22.
Prof M N Madhyastha, Retd Professof Mangalore University was the chief guest. Dr S A Khan, Principal, PACE, Mangalore, presided over the function. M Iqbal, Prof A Kulakarni, Prof Chandrashekar Shetty, Staff Coordinator, FESA, Dr B K Sarojini, Organising Secretary, were present on the dais.
Addressing the gathering Prof Madhyastha said that government should insist on making green technology mandatory rather making it voluntary. It should be used in all spheres. Technology is growing by leaps and bounds but we really have to calculate the per capita waste per head we are creating. Then how will our mother earth recycle? We have to think on these lines. E Waste is the greatest threat to the environment in future, he proclaimed.
Further, explaining the production of paper he said that when we use paper we should think what work has gone behind its production. It is very tough to recycle the printed paper he informed. He asked to practice Earth day in day to day life as well.
