Mangalore, April 22: As part of the ongoing Uroos at the darga of Sufi saint Hazrat Sayyid Muhammad Shareeful Madani Thangal, a ‘Hore Kanike’ procession was held from Nehru Maidan, Mangalore to Ullal by different organisations and individuals of the district under the leadership of B Janardana Poojari, former Union Minister and congress leader on Thursday, April 22.
Gokarnanatheshwara Temple of Kudroli, Taluk Billava Sangha of Bantwal, Youth Congress Committee of Mangalore, Devadiga Sangha, Mangalore, Vishwakarma Samaja, Mangalore, Vijaya Kumar Shetty, Moidin Bava and many other philanthropists jointly donated for the ‘Hore Kanike’.
A number of vehicles including lorries and jeeps carrying rice, food grains, vegetables and lambs took part in the procession.
Speaking on the occasion Poojari said that Ullal dargah is the most sacred dargah in India after Ajmer. The motive of carrying out ‘Hore Kanike’ to Ullal dargah, which is itself a symbol of tolerance, is to promote communal harmony and coexistence, he said.
“All kinds of people irrespective of religion, caste, creed, sect and sex go to Ullal durgah to seek blessings. I am going to lead a Hore Kanike procession to the same location. People of many different religions are taking part in this cause. This is the best example for communal harmony and coexistence”, he said, adding, “This is a way by which we can unite Hindus and Muslims”.
UT Khader, MLA, Vijaya Kumar Shetty, former MLA, KS Muhammad Masood, Mamatha Gatti, Suresh Ballal, Arun Kuvello, Harikrishna Baikampady and many others were present.
