Bangalore, April 23: Promising that BBMP will be an example of urban redevelopment at its spectacular best, SK Nataraj took over as the first BJP Mayor of The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Friday, April 23.

Addressing the media persons in his debut media conference at BBMP office he said that his first priority goes to development of the garden city by tackling the problems one by one.

Pledging to bring greater accountability to the BBMP, the newly elected mayor said that one of his most important challenge as the first of Bangalore is to eradicating the parking mafia by constructing four multi-story huge parking complexes in four directions of the city.

The city will see the widening of roads and construction of over bridges without any delay wherever that is necessary, he said.

He promised to take immediate steps to beautify Bangalore and make it as a garbage free city. “Scientific waste disposal method would be adopted in the city and full-fledged sanitation work will be carried out with the help of private sector”, the Mayor said.

Nataraj also pledged to take appropriate measures to improve the condition of slum areas and construct new multi-story buildings to shelter the families of slum areas.

The much awaited elections for BBMP Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts were held in the morning at the Kempe Gowda council hall under the supervision of Regional commissioner GM Dhananjay. SK Nataraj, with a RSS background leader and said to be the close associate of Transport minister R Ashok, became the first BBMP mayor and the 44th mayor of Bangalore. N Dayanand was handed over the post of Deputy Mayor.
