Mangalore April 25: World Book Day was celebrated by Mangalore Taluk Chutuku Sahitya Parishad in Government Pre University Women’s College here on Sunday, April 25.
Anita Kini, Lawyer, inaugurated the event by opening the Sri Ramayanam Darshanam book written and autographed by Kuvempu, Jnana Peetha Awardee.
Addressing the gathering Kini expressed her joy on seeing the rare handwritten copy of Sri Ramayanam Darshanam. She shared her experiences of her student days and the interest she had in this literary piece.
She said that although electronic media is in vogue today, books must continue to be available. Certain constrains limit the knowledge in electronic media where as books have mass reach. So it is very important that books are made available for future generations, she opined.
Later, a reading of two recent books of Dundiraj, Kannada Poet, was held.
Vaman Idya was chief guest of the function. Dr Satyanarayana Mallipatna presided over the function. Anita Shenoy and Mahesh R Nayak, President, Mangalore Taluk Chutuku Sahitya Parishad, were present on the dais.
