Mangalore, April 25: City Centre- the Destination Mall of the coastal belt and the second largest mall of Karnataka, finally opened its doors to the public in a five day long grand opening gala celebration with a formal inauguration by Dadi Jankiji, the Chief of Brahma Kumaris, on Sunday, April 25.
The 540,000 square feet City Centre Mall, which is considered to be India’s tenth largest and the third largest in South India is also considered as a symbol of changing lifestyle in the coastal city. City Centre is almost four times larger than the existing mall in the city and the second largest mall in a tier-2 city in the country, barely a few hundred square feet smaller than the recently opened Alpha One mall in Amritsar.
Located in the heart of the port city on K S Rao Road, near Hampanakatta junction, where the old Hotel Woodside was located, the mall has been under development for four years. City Centre’s 170 plus tenants include many national and international retailers coming to Mangalore for the first time including Spar Hypermarket, Lifestyle, Westside, Reliance Timeout, Reliance Trends, Mom & Me, Reliance Jewels, Planet Sports, Gili, The Body Shop and Lush.
Speaking on the occasion, Dadi Jankiji said that the City Centre guarantees five things to the visitors – unity, peace, love, happiness and power.
Krishna J Palemar, the District In-charge minister, who was the chief guest at the inaugural programme, said that the mall added another feather in the cap of Mangalore’s glistening landscape.
SM Arshad, the Managing Director of Mohtisham Complex, the mall’s developer said, “A slum-free city, Mangalore has a high standard of living and a comparatively even distribution of wealth. It is poised for a massive infrastructural growth, with the IT industry already having a major presence.” In fact, according to the latest Knight Frank Report, Mangalore is seen as India’s second fastest growing city in terms of real estate development.
He said, world’s fourth largest multiple operator, Mexico based Cinepolis, will operate a 5 screen cinema at the mall, including a unique dual-class VIP theatre to be screened for the first time in India. “Amoeba from Bangalore will operate a 6-lane bowling centre as well as a separate gaming centre at City Centr.
