KKMA launches 6th charitable kidney dialysis centre in Kerala

Kuwait, April 26: Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA), the leading social welfare organization of Indian nationals in Kuwait has opened its sixth charitable KKMA Kidney Dialysis Centre (KDC) in Trivandrum, capital city of Kerala State.



Oomman Chandy, honorable opposition leader of Kerala Legislative Assembly inaugurated the Kidney Center established by KKMA in association with Al Arif Hospital in Trivandrum on Friday, April 16, 2010. In his inauguration speech, Chandy expressed his happiness to be part of such a socially important projects of KKMA conducted for the welfare of NRIs in Kuwait as well as the people of Kerala in general.



The inaugural function held at Al Arif Hospital was presided over by Shivan Kutty, Member of Legislative Assembly. M.M. Hasan, former Minister for Pravasi Affairs was the guest of honour. Sageer Trikarpur, chairman of KKMA provides a brief account of KKMA kidney centre project.



The Kidney Centre at Trivandrum is a part of KKMA’s visionary project to have one such centre in every district of Kerala State, India. The first of its kind centre was opened at IQRAA International Hospital and Research Centre in the city of Calicut in June 2006. In following years, four more centres were opened in Trichur, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts of Kerala and one in Mangalore city of Karnatka State.



Speaking at the inaugural function, Sageer Trikarpur explained that the joining hands with Al Arif will help KKMA to help needy poor dialysis patients to have their dialysis procedures at minimal cost of Rs. 450 or less per procedure. A joint Management Supervisory Committee of KKMA and Al Arif will look after the day to day administration of the Centre.



Abdul Gaffar Moulavi (Scholar and Imam of Manakkad Valiya Palli), Dr. M.I. Sahadulla (Chairman and MD of KIMS), Faizal Khan (MD of NIMS), Murukan (Chairman PRS Hospital), G. Hariharan (Vice Governor Lions Club), Abbas Sait, Mahin Aboobacker (Kshema Foundation), Dr. Thasim Syed Mohammed (Medical Superintendent of Al Arif Hospital), S.A. Labba, chairman of IASCO delivered felicitation speeches. Veeran Kutty (Director Manarul Huda Trust) welcomed the audience. Shahid Labba, secretary of KKMA Abbasiya branch coordinated the entire program.



KKMA mentioned that the seventh KKMA Kidney Centre will be opened in Wynad District by end of this year.



Renal Dialysis is the process of filtering and removing toxic waste products from the blood when the kidneys malfunction or fail. Patients typically receive dialysis treatment three times-a-week, each session lasting an average of 3 to 5 hours.
