Mysore, April 30: A mahout was badly injured when an elephant attacked him in the Mysore zoo here on Thursday, April 30.

The incident took place in the evening when the zoo was shutting down and the visitors were on their way out. Ramu, the elephant, was being led along to its stable by mahout Santosh when the incident took place.

However, the elephant did not go berserk and other mahouts led it to the stable.

Yatish Kumar, Executive Director (in-charge) of Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, said the mahout was rushed to hospital immediately. He would be discharged from the hospital on Friday.

He said there was no specific reason for the elephant to attack its mahout.
