Bengaluru, Jun 1: Despite an abysmally low percentage of Muslims selected for the civil services, coaching by Zakat Foundation of India has helped 16 Muslim candidates including four women to crack the examination this time.
Six among those cleared successful in the civil services through ZFI belong to Jammu and Kashmir. Three come from Jharkhand. Two each belong to Uttar Pradesh and Kerala. The other three candidates are from Karnataka, Rajasthan and Bihar.
ZFI helps the Muslim candidates enroll in civil services coaching institutes in Delhi which have a proven track record.
“We select the candidates each year through an all-India test of UPSC level. We also visit Kashmir and Kerala from where we get bright candidates every year,” says Syed Zafar Mahmood, president, ZFI.
A former IRS officer, Mahmood was OSD to the Sachar Committee. Poor representation of Muslims in the civil services spurred him to set up the coaching centre.
