'Puttur da Muthu' gets a rousing reception in city

Mangalore, August 13: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda was accorded a rousing reception in city on Saturday morning on his first visit to the home district after assuming office.

The ever smiling CM landed at Mangalore Airport at 8.15 am for a two day Dakshina Kannada visit. The exchange of greetings in Tulu language between the CM and District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar soon after former's arrival created a pleasant atmosphere.

First of all, Mr Gowda wanted to thank the people of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and the media of twin districts for their overwhelming support throughout his political career.

“Because of this support, the blessings of God and elders, and continuous struggle of party workers throughout the state, today I have become the Chief Minister of Karnataka,” said Puttur da Muthu.

The CM said that he is committed to use this opportunity to serve the people of Karnataka and give a new dimension to the development of State.

Exhibiting a special interest in the development of Dakshina Kannada district, the CM promised to hold discussions with Zilla Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat and Mangalore City Corporation officials to chalk out development plans.

Stating that there is no confusion is state politics, the CM said that the third expansion of his cabinet would take place after his consultation with top brass of the party.

Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor Praveen, Inspector General of Police Alok Mohan and City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh were also present.

Udupi, Dec 1: A horrific case of alleged rape has unfolded in Udupi, where a worker from a Hindutva organisation, previously arrested and released on bail for harassing a young woman, is now accused of waylaying and sexually assaulting her.

The arrested individual has been identified as Pradeep Poojary (26), a member of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike's Nairkode unit in Perdur.

Poojary had allegedly been relentlessly harassing the young woman, pressuring her to marry him. When she bravely stood up to him and refused his demands, she filed a formal complaint at the Hiriyadka police station. He was subsequently arrested in that initial harassment case but was later granted bail.

According to police reports, driven by the same malicious grudge, Poojary allegedly intercepted the woman again on November 29. While she was walking through a deserted area, the accused is claimed to have threatened her by grabbing her neck. When she again refused to marry him, he allegedly proceeded to rape her.

The survivor immediately informed her family about the traumatic assault. Following this, her parents lodged a complaint at the Udupi women’s police station.

Police arrested Poojary again and produced him before the court. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.
