Celebrated drummer Shivamani to settle in Temple Town

Mangalore, August 25: Internationally acclaimed drummer Shivamni is all set to settle down in Udupi by opening a music school. The seer of Shiroor Mutt, Sri Lakshmivara Theertha has decided to provide five acres of land near Mutt for this purpose.

Born to S M Anandan, a famous drummer on December 1, 1959 in Chennai, Shivamani started playing drums when he was just seven years old. He has been playing and performing with drums for over 40 years and has fans all over the globe.

Shivamani was recognized for his contributions for movies such as Roja, Rang De Basanthi, Dil Se, Kabul Express, Pudu Vellei Malei, Chayya Chayya etc. He has performed in shows at Dubai, Moscow, New York, Doha and Toronto to name a few. He had also supported the Chennai Super Kings team by playing drums during IPL.

The proposed institution will be named as Musical School and Instruments. It will provide expert coaching for playing drums, guitar, violin, keyboard and other major musical instruments.

This school will also be open to tourists who are interested in music. Shivamani will settle down here, said the seer of Shiroor mutt. This move by Shivamani is expected to benefit the music of the region.

Shivamani had visited the Temple Town to participate in the Vitla Pindi celebrations recently.
