Kasaragod, Jun 22: Excise officials arrested two youths and seized 32 kg of ganja while the contraband was being transported in a car at the excise check-post at Tholpetty on the Kerala-Karnataka border around yesterday.
The arrested were identified as Neeraj, 21, of Narankovil at Puzhathi and Yasar Arafath, 23, of Cherucath at Kunhipally in Kannur district.
A team led by M.K. Sunil, excise inspector, Mananthavadi, arrested the duo on a tip-off while they were transporting the ganja from Bengaluru to Kannur in a car for retail sale.
The ganja was kept in 64 small bags and hidden in secret chambers of the car, Mr. Sunil said. The car was also seized. The youths were charged under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The accused would be produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate.
