Udupi, Jan 22: After arresting six persons Udupi police were on the lookout for two more accused including an astrologer in connection with the murder of RTI activist and Congress worker Vasudeva Adiga.

Addressing media persons Udupi Superintendent of Police M.B. Boralingaiah said that an advocate was also among six arrested on January 17 and 18 for their alleged involvement in the case.

Explaining about the abduction and murder of RTI activist, the SP said Mr. Adiga was abducted near Goliangady village on the night of January 7.

The accused hit him with a rod and he became unconscious. Then, they then shifted him to an SUV. One of the accused drove Mr. Adiga's motorcycle for about six km from Goliangady and abandoned it there. They threw away his mobile phone after some more distance. They took the unconscious Adiga to Yemmedodi village near Kadur in Chikmagalur district.

They strangulated him with a nylon rope, tied his hands and legs and tied a 20-kg weighing stone to his legs and threw his body into the Madagadakere Pond at Yemmedodi.

The police found the decomposed body floating in the pond on January 12. When they searched his clothes, they found a receipt which gave away Mr. Adiga's identity.

Mr. Boralingaiah said that investigations so far pointed to a land dispute with his neighbour and astrologer Ramesh Bairy for the murder. However, they were investigating whether Mr. Adiga made some enemies because of his RTI activism. “We are investigating from the RTI angle also,” Mr. Boralingaiah said. He had sought information on a wide range of issues, including stone quarrying and irregularities from various government departments and temples.

When the police began investigating the case after Adiga's disappearance on January 7, besides those involved in the land disputes, it had made a list of at least 25 to 30 persons who might be his enemies because of his RTI activism.
