New Delhi, Sep 4: National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party BL Santhosh attack on Congress after the arrest of its Karnataka leader DK Shivakumar by saying the then Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa faces judicial trial and gets a clean chit. Never was democracy in danger, he said on Wednesday.

"The then Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa faces judicial trial and gets a clean chit. Never was democracy in danger. Now Congress leaders are under scrutiny. Democracy gets admitted to ICU.
There is a limit Congis. Nation understands you perfectly Off late," Santhosh tweeted thereby establishing the difference on how Congress and BJP leaders face corruption charges.

The BJP has intensified its attack on Congress after the arrest of its Karnataka leader DK Shivakumar by the enforcement directorate.

The party hopes that the arrest, soon after that of former finance minister P Chidambaram, is expected to help further cement its image as an anti-corruption crusader.

The Congress has been crying hoarse after the arrest claiming that it was an assault on democracy and that BJP is trying to demoralize the party by arresting Shivakumar.

Taking on the Congress, BJPs national general secretary organization BL Santhosh said, "The then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi submits himself to the notices of agencies, comes out untainted. The then Home Minister of Gujarat Amit Shah submits himself to the laws of the land and comes out unscathed."

This has come after Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa reportedly told various news channels that he is not happy with the arrest and hopes Shivakumar to be released.

Party's national spokesperson, Sambit Patra, also said that it was shameful to see Congress protesting to protect the DK Shivakumar. "Can laws be different for people. More than eight crores were recovered from his residence in Delhi and there is a money trail behind it. Majority Congress leaders are out on bail. These leaders are riding on ' bailgadi'. ED is investigating it. Law will take its own course, " Patra added.

Shiv Kumar was arrested by the enforcement directorate on Tuesday evening from the national capital for his alleged involvement in shady financial transactions.

Backing the ED's action, P Murlidhar Rao, the national general secretary said, "the issue has nothing to do with politics and BJP. It has everything to do with money laundering and ED cases.

He is facing cases. D K Shivakumar has taken the route of politicising. The arrest is related to the investigation into money laundering. As a political party BJP had no role to play in this."

An Indian expatriate, hailing from Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka, who was detained in Jeddah jail in an alleged cyber case, was set free recently. He is allowed to continue his work in the same company.

The 49-year-old Mangalurean, has been working for a Maintenance company in Jeddah for more than 13 years. He is known for his efficiency and sincerity in the company with good experience in his field of work.

His company usually assigned him on duty in Jeddah sea port to take the delivery of the goods consigned to his company. As a part of his duty, he normally takes pictures of the goods before the transportation. He did the same in February 2023 too.

The security personnel informed the police about his act that amounts to be a violation of the port security rule. He was unaware of the rule as he was doing it normally in the port during the release of the goods. Since then, he was detained by the police on the charge of photographing inside the port premises. After more than 6 months detention, he was released and allowed to work in the same company.

The detainee’s brother based in Jeddah was constantly pursuing the case.

P A Hameed Padubidri, a pro-bono NRI lawyer and social worker based in Riyadh, extended his socio-humanitarian help in this case upon the request of his family and relatives.

He actively involved trying to set him free from the jail on humanitarian grounds with the coordination and help of the Consulate General of India (CGI) Jeddah. The CGI keenly followed up the case with the concerned Saudi authorities. He was released from the jail recently and shared his happiness with his family and thanked good samaritans.

Udupi, Mar 13: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah today said that Congress in coastal region will further strengthen thanks to the entry of former chairman of Commission for Backward Classes Jayaprakash Hegde, and former MLA Sukumar Shetty.

He was responding to the queries of media persons after his arrival at the helipad in Udupi to take part in district-level convention of scheme beneficiaries.

“Hegde was in Congress and had served as MP. With Hegde returning back, the Congress will get more strength in the coastal districts,” he said.

On Hegde’s candidature for Udupi-Chikmagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, the CM said that the Congress high command will decide on the candidate.

On CAA

Siddaramaiah questioned why it took the Centre more than four years to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and termed the announcement as a political gimmick ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“Why were they silent all these years on implementing the CAA. With the fear of losing the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the BJP is engaged in all types of gimmick,” he said.

The Centre on Monday announced the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, a move that comes four years after the contentious law was passed. This paves the way for citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Siddaramaiah also said his government has not yet discussed the issue of implementation of the CAA in the State, and the Cabinet will take a call on it. “We are yet to read it. We will take a decision after going through it and discuss it in the cabinet tomorrow," CM said.

Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday launched simultaneous raids in multiple places, including Bengaluru and Shivamogga.

Reports suggested that the ongoing raids are in connection with the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Bengaluru’s Rameshwaram Cafe on March 1. The blast had injured at least ten people as per the police report.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) had launched an investigation alongside the NIA, and the trail of the suspect led them to Tumakuru first and subsequently to Ballari. Investigators believe that the bomb was planted by Mussavir Hussain Shazib, a handler of the Islamic State’s Shivamogga module who was aided by another IS handler called Ahmed Taahaa.

Sources in the know said that Shazib and Taahaa had stayed in Chennai for about a month between January and February using fake credentials. The names of the suspects were identified after they traced the cap worn by Shazib to a shop in a mall in Chennai. The cap, which was abandoned by the bomber in Bengaluru after the blast, was reportedly bought by Taahaa, around January-end.

As per the NIA, Shazib hails from Masjid Road in Thirthahalli, Shivamogga district, and Taahaa from Fish Market Road, Soppu Gude, Thirthahalli Rural. Both "wanted" suspects have been termed "absconders" by the NIA.

The NIA has questioned seven jailed terror suspects so far in connection with the blast. The investigation agency had also obtained seven-day custody of a jailed terror suspect named Maaz Muneer Ahmed.
