Yadagiri, Dec 6: The police had to resort to baton charge to disperse a group of people who allegedly attempted to shut down shops forcibly in Yadagiri in an unannounced 'black day' to mark the 25th year of razing of Babri Masjid on Wednesday.
At about 11.30 am, a few dozen youngsters waving black flags tried to shut down shops and hotels of only Muslim owners on the main streets of Yadagiri from Government PU College to Chittapur link road.
They screamed slogans proclaiming today a 'black day' and called for the observance of a 'bundh'.
The situation turned tense for a while. Immediately the city police rushed to the spot and lathi charged the youth and dispersed them.
DySP S Panduranga who came to the scene said those responsible for the breach of peace would be brought to justice after investigation.
