Bengaluru, Sept 23: The city police have issued summons to former chief minister and BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa to appear before them on September 28 for questioning in connection with an attempt-to-kidnap and assault case involving Vinay, personal assistant to K.S. Eshwarappa, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council.
The police have arrested eight persons so far and had even summoned Mr. Yeddyurappa’s PA, Santosh, for questioning.
After evading the police for a while, Mr. Santosh obtained anticipatory bail and appeared before the police. But he reportedly did not cooperate with the line of questioning. The police then approached the courts seeking cancellation of his bail as he had not adhered to the bail conditions. The matter is pending in court.
On Friday, Assistant Commissioner of Police A.R. Badiger, the investigating officer, served notice at Mr.Yeddyurappa’s house in Dollars Colony. There are some questions that need to be clarified, a senior police officer said.
A few months ago, the former Chief Minister had written to the then Police Commissioner Praveen Sood seeking a fair probe into the case. In that letter, he had batted for Mr. Santosh and alleged that he was being “framed.” The police probe later pointed to the conspiracy to attack and kidnap Mr. Vinay allegedly being hatched at Mr. Yeddyurappa’s house, where Mr. Santosh also was staying.
The police have registered cases against Santosh and his associates under IPC Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt ), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 363 (kidnapping ), 511 (of fences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment), 331 (causing grievous hurt to extort confession, or to compel restoration of property) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).
