Kasargod, Aug 15: Even as RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has defended violation of protocol during Independence Day celebration, a Congress MLA has mocked the hardcore Hindutva outfit by conveying it the wishes of 15th anniversary of “touching” the national flag.
In his Facebook post, MLA V T Balram wished all Indians 71st Independence Day and wished all RSS workers 15th anniversary of touching a national flag with their hands recalling that the outfit had unfurled the flag officially only in 2002.
He also ‘thanked’ the “anti-fascist government” in Kerala for giving an opportunity to the RSS chief to hoist flag in a government-aided school
Meanwhile, BJP leader K Surendran has rushed to defend Bhagawat, saying those who criticise the RSS chief are intolerant. Mohan Bhagwat is a person who would have occupied any government posts if he had wished for, he said in a Facebook post.
The RSS does not belong to the ‘genus’ which runs away fearing the ‘decrees’ of the government, Surendran said.
Independence Day celebrations in Palakkad came with a political twist after Bhagwat ignored an order by the district administration which restricted leaders of organisations from hoisting the national flag at a government-aided school.
