Yadgir, Oct 20: Former Congress MLA Raja Venkatappa Naik, his two sons, and 14 others, have been booked by the Yadgir district police under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly creating ruckus in Surpur police station.
They were slapped with section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 143 (Punishment to a member of an unlawful assembly), 147 (Punishment for rioting), and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object).
Superintendent of Police Iada Martin Marbanaing told media on Saturday that none had been arrested so far.
According to the FIR lodged by Head Constable Shamburao S. Murigeppa, Mr. Naik and his sons Raja Venugopal Naik and Raja Santosh Naik, and Raja Rup Kumar Naik, Raja Shushant Naik and Raja Kumar Naik, sons of his brothers, and others came to Surpur police station on Friday morning at around 9 a.m. and started abusing him and two constables in foul language. They also threatened to set the police station on fire by using filthy language against senior police officials who were not present at that moment, the FIR added.
It was further stated in the FIR that they abused Deputy Superintendent of Police over the phone and the Police Inspector too when he visited their house after the incident.
“There was a case in connection with the case of brutal assault by BJP workers on Congress workers. Therefore, I had gone to the police station to know about the status of the case. But, the police registered a case,” Mr. Naik was quoted as saying by a TV channel.
