Mangaluru, Sept 19: A heavy vehicle driver was arrested by the sleuths of Panambur police station in Mangaluru on charge of murdering his former colleague and robbing him of a load of palm oil he was transporting in a truck from Mangaluru to Bengaluru.
The accused is Asadullah Sharief (49), a resident of Kambipura near Kengeri in Bengaluru.
The shocking crime came to light following investigation of the complaint lodged on August 28 by the owner of Shivaganesh Transport accusing Anil Kumar, truck driver of Sugama Transport, of cheating as he had failed to deliver 1,050 boxes of palm oil worth Rs 7.5 lakh from Ruchi Soya Industries in Baikampady to a firm in Bengaluru.
Following a study of the call records of Anil Kumar, a team of Panambur Police, led by Inspector Rafiq K.M., started questioning people close to Anil Kumar.
One among those who was questioned was Asadullah, who had worked with Anil Kumar for a few months in Sugama Transport.
Asadullah reportedly admitted to murdering Anil Kumar with the help of a few of his accomplices and burying the body at a place in Kumbalgodu in Ramanagaram district.
Asadullah also reportedly admitted to taking away the palm oil boxes from the victim and selling them in the market.
