Mangaluru, Aug 12: A local court has sentenced 37-year-old man from Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district to one year’s imprisonment for posting intimate photos of a woman on a social networking site.

According to the chargesheet of the Subramanya police, Kusumadhara met a 25-year-old woman of his village at a relative’s marriage. On April 14, 2013, Kusumadhara reportedly found out where she lived.

He won her heart and promised to marry her. Later she allegedly sexually assaulted her and he recorded a video of the act on his mobile phone. He then tried to extort money from the girl using them. When the girl refused to give money, Kusumadhara posted photographs of the scene on June 17, 2013 on Facebook. The girl filed a complaint on June 19, 2013.

The police filed chargesheet accusing Kusumdhara of offences under Section 376 (rape), 417 (cheating women of marriage), 506 (criminal intimidation), 384 (extortion), 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable for life) and 292 (a) (sale or circulation of obscene material) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 (a) (publishing or transmitting of material containing sexully explicit act) of Information Technology Act.

The VI Additional District and Sessions Judge D.T. Puttarangaswamy on Friday sentenced Kusumadhara to six months imprisonment for the offence under Section 292 (a) and imposed fine of Rs. 2,000.

He was sentenced to undergo one year’s imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs. 10,000 for offence under Section 67 (A) of the IT Act. Both the sentences will run concurrently, the judge noted.
