Mangaluru, Mar 20: All India Congress Committee chairperson Rahul Gandhi’s rodeshow in Surathkal on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday attracted thousands of people.
The roadshow of Rahul in Surathkal as part of Congress’ Janaashrivad Yatra comes weeks after saffron party held two major rallies in the communally sensitive town under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP supremo Amit Shah.
Local MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava was on cloud nine as Rahul not only shared the stage with him but also praised him in front of chief minister. An emotional Bava pulled Rahul’s both hands and placed them on his head to exhibit his humility and gratitude.
Addressing the rally, Rahul continued his scathing attack against the corruption and failures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi –led union government and compared the latter to an autocrat who believes in “one-man show”.
He said that the PM not only claiming credit for the achievements of former prime minister Manmohan Singh-led UPA government, but also trying to sideline his own party leaders L K Advani, Arun Jaitley and Nitin Gadkari.
“The PM has been repeatedly claiming in his speeches that the Congress has not contributed anything for the development of the country during the last 70 years. Not recognising the contributions of the party for the development of the country was an insult not only to the Congress but for all people of the country,” he said.
Rahul also said that Modi was responsible for privatising 90 per cent of universities and colleges in Gujarat.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, power minister D K Shivakumar, forest minister B Ramanath Rai were also present on the occasion.
