Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 11: Two persons were drowned in separate incidents in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
A 13-year-old boy was found drowned in a pool of water that had accumulated in an abandoned stone quarry in Adyar Padavu in Mangaluru Rural Police limits on Monday.
According to the police, Tameem (13) had gone along with a few of his friends for swimming in the quarry on Sunday evening. He got stuck in the quarry. On Monday morning, the local swimmers retrieved Tameem’s body, the police said.
The body of a man who went missing on July 8 was recovered on the banks of a nearby river at Bellal village in Kundapur taluk on Tuesday. He is said to have drowned.
According to the Kollur police, Govinda Poojary (46) was crossing a stream at Kuntady Mortu in Bellal village at around 3 p.m. on July 8, when he got caught in the water currents and was carried away. There was heavy rainfall on that day. Since he could not swim, he drowned.
The body was recovered from the riverbanks of the Chakra in the same village at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. A case of unnatural death has been registered. Investigation is on, the police said.
