Kasaragod, Jan 19: A 60-year-old woman was found murdered at her residence at Ayampara, near Periye in Kasaragod, on Friday. This is the third such incident in the district.
Zubaida was found dead inside her house at Chekkipallam with her hands and legs tied up. The woman had been staying alone for five years in the house built on land given by the government.
The incident came to light around 12.30 p.m. Neighbours grew suspicious as the woman, a regular visitor to the neighbourhood houses, failed to visit them during the day. They then found the front door of the house locked, the Bekal police said.
Senior police officers led by Inspector General (North) Mahipal Yadav inspected the residence and fingerprint experts and dog squad visited the spot.
The murder came at a time when the police are groping in the dark about the culprits in the murder of a retired headmistress, P.V. Janaki, 65, at her residence at Puliyannur, near Cheemeni, on December 13. She was murdered allegedly by a three masked robbers who sped away with gold ornaments and Rs. 50,000 in cash from the house after seriously injuring her husband K. Krishnan, 72, a retired headmaster.
Director General of Police Loknath Behera had announced a reward of Rs. 2 lakh to those who provide information on the culprits.
The police have also failed to make any headway in the murder of Devaki, 68, wife of Pakkeeran, a resident of nearby Periyattadukkam in January last year.
