Bhatkal, Feb 29: Linking Islam to terrorism, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Karnataka has called to wipe out the religion of Islam from the world.

AnantKumarHegde
Anant Kumar Dattatreya Hegde, a member of parliament, who represents coastal Karnataka's Uttara Kannada constituency, in a press meet at his native Srisi on Sunday stated that terrorism could not be wiped out as long as Islam remained in this world.

Stating that Islam is a hurdle for the global peace, he said that uprooting the “religion of Arabians” is the only way to end violence and terrorism in India and other countries.

He went on to declare Bhatkal, a Muslim dominant town which falls under his constituency and Azamgarh of Uttar Pradesh as the two epicentres of terrorism in India.

Mr Hegde also accused a section of politicians and media of supporting terrorism and “anti-national activities” besides campaigning against “nationalists”.

Meanwhile, a video clipping of Mr Hegde appealing press persons not to hesitate to publish his remarks against Islam, has gone viral on WhatsApp and other social media.

Udupi, Nov 15: Acclaimed film composer and a songwriter Hamsalekha, who had sparked a row by making controversial remarks against former Pejawar Mutt pontiff Late Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji, has apologised for the same.

Hamsalekha, who predominantly works in the Kannada film industry, was invited as the chief guest at an award function in Mysuru, where he spoke about the ugly practice of untouchability in Hindu society.

Referred to the initiative undertaken by the late swamiji to visit the Dalit colonies, he said: "The best he can do is to go there and sit. Can he eat chicken if offered, or can he eat mutton fry or liver fry? I don't think that visiting the houses of Dalits is a big achievement."

He went on to say that people of forward communities should take Dalits to their homes and feed them. They should also offer to wash the utensils used by the Dalits, he had commented.

However, as the video went viral and sparked outrage, Hamsalekha came out with an apology, the video of which he posted in the Facebook. "I know I was wrong in making such comments in an awards ceremony… Even my wife did not like some of my utterances and I sought apologies from her. I am a musician and do not want to hurt anyone... Please forgive me if my words have hurt you," he said in the video.

Mangaluru, Nov 20: Mangaluru MLA U T Khader termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on repealing the three controversial farm laws as the victory of the farmers.

It is the victory of farmers and Opposition parties who held protests against the farm laws for the last one year.

“After farm laws, now people of the country should launch their agitation against the rise in price of petroleum and LPG. The common man is affected by the rise in price of petrol, diesel and LPG. There is a need to carry out a nationwide stir against it.”

Stating that the BJP-led government was forced to repeal the farm laws in fear of defeat in the elections in five states, the former minister said that the BJP had tasted defeat in the byelections that were held recently.

He demanded that the central government should announce at least Rs 10 lakh to the kin of farmers who died during the protest.

“Those political parties who flayed the protesting farmers should apologise now. The victory of farmers is the victory of democracy,” he said.

Bengaluru, Nov 19: Congress leaders were in a jubilant mode over the roll back of the contentious farm laws by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The BJP leaders hailed the move, but maintained that the decision has not been taken in the backdrop of elections.

Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda stated, "I welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to repeal the three farm laws. My salute to all the farmers who put up democratic resistance against the laws. Debate and discussion is key in a parliamentary set up."

Former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa lauded the decision. He said, "The decision has not been made in view of the upcoming elections. This is not a question of winning or losing, the decision has been made in the interest of the farmers."

"The Central government has given good news to the farming community. We pray for the souls of agitating farmers who lost their lives during the protests," he said.

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah stated that it was a comprehensive victory for the sons of soil.

He further stated that now people are geared up for agitation on price hikes of essential commodities, including fuel.

"However mighty the dictator could be, no matter how broad is his chest (referring to Prime Minister Modi's earlier statement) he should bow down before the might of people. This is the beauty of democracy. This day could be marked as an independence day for farmers," he explained.

Siddaramaiah has given a title of 'Jai Kisan' to his statements on repealing farm laws and congratulated the agitators for putting up a "solid movement" against the Central government.

"This is not a time to rest. It is not only farm laws, every policy and programme of the Central government is anti-people. The farmer's movement against the BJP government will continue," he said.

Janata Dal (Secular) sees the Centre’s decision as a pre-poll drama. Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy stated that he suspects that the decision is being taken in the backdrop of pending elections to five states. He described the roll back of "dark farm laws" as a historic victory for farmers.

"The Central government has heaped inhuman violence upon them, many innocents had to pay up with their lives. The decision should be genuine and the Prime Minister should have promised farmers that the laws won't be brought back after elections," he said.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated that the BJP government is sensible. "Our Prime Minister has reciprocated to the demands of farmers and there is no connection with the elections to five states," he said.

The process of liberalisation and globalisation started at the time of Congress-led UPA government. To facilitate them, they formulated new policies and laws. The World Trade Agreement was also signed during the UPA rule, which includes reforms in the agricultural market, he said.

Congress State President D K Shivakumar described the development as a historical victory for farmers and the Congress party. He said that the farm laws were detrimental to the interests of farmers.

Hundreds of farmers have sacrificed their lives for the movement. Now, the Central government has kneeled before the farming community. This is a victory of democracy against a "dictatorial and sick mindset," Shivakumar added.
