
Davangere/Athani/Hassan, Aug 12: Ten people died in three road accidents across the state on Monday.
In the first incident, a speeding private bus hit a Maruti Omni at 6.45 am at Taralabalu Nagar near Davangere, killing five people, including three of a family.
According to the rural police, S L Rudraiah (55), wife Sumathi (50), son Pradeep (24) and Pradeep's friends, Adarsha (22) and Karthik (22), were returning after visiting the Anjaneya Swami Temple in Tarikere taluk, Chikmagalur district, when the mishap occurred.
Rudraiah, a BSNL employee, and his family were staying at BSNL quarters near Ramakrishna Ashram in Davangere city.
The private bus, plying from Davangere to Chikmagalur, hit the Omni killing all the five on the spot. No bus passengers were injured, police said. In another incident, three people of a family were killed on the spot when the vehicle in which they were travelling was hit by a truck at Athani in Belgaum district.
According to Athani police, Nandavati Channabasappa Mali (38), owner of Mali Jewellers, Hausabai Mali (60) and Ajay Mali (22), from Athani town, were going to Bellanki, a village on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border, when a speeding truck hit their car from the rear at Masaraguppi village, in the morning.
In Hassan, two people were killed on the spot and 15 people injured when the lorry they were travelling in fell into a tank near Shantigrama of the taluk.
Manju (38) and Mujeeb (35) were labourers from Hassan. The injured have been admitted to the government hospital in Hassan, Shantigrama police said.
One of the injured, Dharmegowda, said because of negligent driving, the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a curve.
