2 killed, nearly 2 dozen injured as private bus topples on Charmadi ghat

Belthangady, May 16: At least two persons lost their lives and nearly two dozen passengers suffered injuries when a private bus met with an accident on Charmadi ghat on Tuesday.

The mishap took place when the driver lost control over the bus while negotiating the third curve of the tricky ghat that falls under Belthangady taluk. The Kerala registered bus was moving towards Ujire from the direction of Kottigehar.

The ill-fated bus veered off the road and toppled on a small ravine. Fortunately it did not fall into the deep gorge.

Preliminary reports confirmed the death of a woman and a youth. The condition of the some of the injured is said to be critical.

Dharmasthala police rushed to the spot and involved in rescue operation along with local residents. More details are awaited.
