Mangalore, Feb 27: Advocate Muhammad Haneef has been appointed as the chairman of Beary Sahitya Academy.
Mr Haneef has been working for the prosperity of the Beary language since 1998.

He has served as president of Akhila Bharatha Beary Parishat, founder president of Muslim Vikasa Parishat and currently he is the president of Kendra Beary Sahithya Parishat.
He was instrumental in organizing 'Boba-Belama' a programme for elderly bearys at Kaikamba in 2010.
He has authored a book on Beary movement titled 'Beary Andolanada Hejjegalu' and another book on caste-reservation titled 'Jaathi-Dharma Mathu Meesalathi.'
He has edited several books including 'Beary Adhyayana 2008' and 'Nammooru.'
He was also active in Ahinda movements besides serving as Vice-President of Komu Sauharda Vedike and Chinthana Prajavedike.
Academy members:
A total of 10 members have appointed as members of the academy. They are Hameed Padubidre, Idinabba Chikmaglur, Muhammad Firdouse Madikeri, Umar U H, Hussain Katipalla, Abbas Kiragunda Moodigere, Abdul Hameed Bantwal, Zohara Krishnapura, Hameed Kalladka Ullala and Badruddeen Mani.
