Mangalore, Oct 1: Belthangady based Praja Prabhutva Vedike in association with Rashtriya Hindu Jagaran Vedike, and Navachandi Yaga Samiti, Belthangady will be holding a navachandi-yaga at Belthangady on October 10 to seek divine intervention in two-year-old Saujanya rape and murder case.
Saujanya, a second year PUC student of SDM College, was found raped and murdered, on October 10, 2012, near Belthangady.
It was concerted pressure brought upon the government by various like-minded organisations, including the Vedike that forced it to order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Even as the CBI is investigating the matter, the Vedike has now decided to repose faith in the almighty through this yaga with the ostensible idea of not only praying for welfare of society, but also to give 'sanity' to those who perpetrated the crime to own up for it.
Mahesh Shetty Thimarody, founder of two Vedikes told reporters here that 11 women priests will perform the duties of head priests for each of the 11 'yaga kunda' that will be set up for the navachandiyaga that will be held at Belthangady taluk stadium on October 10. The event, which he claimed is happening for the first time in South India will see 1,008 married women take part and around 500 women have already committed their participation.
Vedike volunteers from six zilla panchayat constituencies in Belthangady taluk will take out bike rallies to all areas in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district from October 2 spreading the message of the yaga to all concerned.
Mahesh Shetty said, "We don't know what the outcome of probe by CBI will be. Hence, we have also decided to seek divine intervention." Seers of 11 important religious mutts from the two district will deliver benedictions, he added.
