Kasaragod, Jun 11: The problem of sea erosion has rejuvenated in Kasaragod as the monsoon rains continued lash the coastal district.

Currently, the Kizhoor and Chembarikka beaches in Kasaragod are facing a threat from rough sea, forcing residents to move to safer areas.

The sea had remained rough over the past few days. Even though seawalls had been constructed on the vulnerable stretches of the beach, a portion had caved in during the previous monsoon.

Local people said the wall could have suffered damage due to faulty construction.

With the sea remaining rough, a few families had shifted to safer places, sources said.

House collapsed

Kasaragod: A tile-roofed house caved in at Periadukka in Kasaragod on Tuesday evening, injuring four members of a family.

While four occupants of the house were trapped, 63-year-old Sita escaped.

The injured — Karthik, 2, Lohit, 12, Pallavi, 15, and Lalita, 35 — are under treatment at General Hospital here.
