Mangalore, May 21: President of Kerala Tulu Academy B Subbayya Rai advocated heads of other academies to work with unity with each together towards preservation of their respective language, culture and identity.
He was felicitated along with president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy Janaki Brahmavar and president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy S Castelino, at a literary meeting of honorary award winners organised by Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, Mangalore in the city on Wednesday.
Speaking after the felicitation, Mr Rai said that the survival of a community depended on the survival of its language. Hence, the growth and development of the language was essential for the growth of the community, he said, encouraging the heads of academies to work towards this goal.
On the occasion, award winners from the Beary community Ibrahim Tannirbavi, U A Kasim Ullal, K P Abdul Khader Kuttettur, Mohammed Maripalla, Raheem B C Road, Ahmed Bava Bajal, V A Ismail Madani, Hamza Malar, Mohammed Baddoor, K Mohammed Chikmagalur, Basheer Baikampady, Ismail Moodushedde, Charmadi Hasanabba and Zakariya Venur were presented with mementos.
Janaki Brahmavar and Roy Castelino spoke on the occasion.
Registrar of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy Umarabba welcomed the gathering. President of the academy presided over the programme.
