Kochi, Feb 21: The search operations to nab the two accused involved in the abduction and harassment of noted South Indian actress Bhavana continued for the fourth day today, with police taking into custody one person from Palakkad. Efforts are underway to nab the alleged mastermind Pulsar Suni and another accused V P Vigeesh.

Manikandan has been taken into custody from Palakkad, about 144 km from here, late last night, police sources said today. However, his arrest has not been recorded so far. Manikandan, a native of Thammanam in Ernakulam, had moved an anticipatory bail application in the Kerala High Court along with Suni and Vigeesh, claiming that they had been "falsely implicated" in the crime on the basis of the "confession" statement of Martin, the driver of the actress.

When the bail plea came up for hearing today, the High Court postponed the matter to March 3. Meanwhile, forensic experts have collected evidence from the car in which the actress was harassed by the gang members. So far, three persons--Vadival Salim, Pradeep and Martin--have been arrested in connection with the case, police said.

All the three have been remanded to judicial custody by a magistrate court in Aluva. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who spoke to the actress over phone yesterday, has promised stern action against those responsible for the February 17 incident. The actress was allegedly harassed inside her car for two hours by her tormentors, who had forced their way into the vehicle, before vanishing in a busy area in Kochi.

Meanwhile, police are probing whether people from the film industry were involved in the abduction and rape attempt. Crime Branch IG Dinendra Kashyap, who is overseeing the investigation, said, “The probe will cover all aspects, including the involvement of those from the film industry in the conspiracy. We will also look into whether alleged rivalry in the film industry among the artistes has anything to do with the attack.”

Police sources said that key accused Sunil Kumar alias Pulsor Sunil, who had earlier worked with the actress’s driver, had contacted some people in the industry after the incident. A lookout notice has been issued to nab Sunil, they added.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.
