Bengaluru, Jul 12: The Mahalakshmi Layout police on Tuesday recorded statements of BJP Yuva Morcha office-bearer Rajendra Urs, who is the prime suspect in the recent attempt to kidnap Vinay, the personal assistant (PA) of Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, K S Eshwarappa.

The police had arrested a few habitual offenders in this connection. They had confessed that they tried to kidnap Vinay in May at the behest of Urs who is said to be a close aide of the BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa. One of the habitual offenders, identified as Prashanth, had escaped from the police custody when he was taken for a spot mahajar a couple of days ago.
Investigation revealed that Urs was part of the gang of four which tried to kidnap Vinay after intercepting his car in Mahalakshmi Layout in May. The police summoned Urs for questioning four days ago. But he went underground only to appear before the police on Tuesday with an anticipatory bail. The police have regularised the bail and are questioning him to ascertain his role in the case, a police officer said.
