Udupi, Nov 30: Chaos erupted in the general body meeting of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) leading to its adjournment in just 25 minutes here on Saturday, as the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors stormed into the well of the House alleging corruption in the expenditure of the Udupi Utsava fest held last year.

The ruling Congress members said the opposition party members don't have moral right to ask the financial matters pertaining to Udupi Utsav, as they had boycotted the entire event. However, the details were produced before the house and there is no question of reproducing the details.
The counter arguments resulted in the obstruction of the proceedings. The meeting was adjourned for 10 minutes. When the meeting started, the opposition members once again demanded the clarification over the financial aspect. They obstructed the ruling party to take up the issue in the agenda.
The BJP councillors alleged that there was no transparency in the way Udupi Utsava had been held last year. CMC president P. Yuvaraj said that the CMC had made a profit of Rs. 14.08 lakh during the Udupi Utsava last year, but this money was spent for expenses of the Beach Utsava held in Malpe last year and the CMC was left with only Rs. 24,808.
Mr. Yuvaraj later announced the entire agenda of the House as passed with a majority vote and adjourned the House.
