She will take on much popular incumbent MP Jayaprakash Hegde in the upcoming general elections.
Though she was reluctant to contest from Udupi-Chikamagalur parliament constituency initially, RSS and BJP core committee have convinced her.
Initially, local MLAs CT Ravi, V Sunil Kumar vehemently opposed Shobha 's candidature and have asked the party to field a different candidate, but senior leaders convinced them to work for her victory.
Meanwhile, MLC and former minister CH Vijayashankar's name has been proposed for Hassan to contest against former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. But, he reportedly revolted against the decision. Vijayashankar, twice an MP from Mysore, was a strong contender from Mysore until the election committee mooted journalist Prathap Simha's name for this constituency.
Also, Tejaswini Gowda quit the Congress and joined BJP on Wednesday. She shot to fame after defeating former PM HD Deve Gowda from Kanakapura in 2004 Lok Sabha polls.
"The interests of Hindus are being sacrificed by all political parties, including the Congress. I joined BJP because it's the only party which protects their interest," she said after joining the party.
The party has not yet finalized the candidates for Tumkur and Bidar as Yeddyurappa is pushing for his supporters in both these constituencies. Yeddyurappa is batting for sitting MP GS Basavaraju, who has been suspended from the party after he shifted his loyalty to the KJP, from Tumkur.
The former CM also wants young turk Suryakanth Nagamarapalli from Bidar, while the BJP is keen in fielding Suryakanth's father and MLA Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli.
