Bengaluru, May 5: BJP leader N R Ramesh on Thursday accused Housing Minister M Krishnappa of grabbing four-and-a-half acres of government land worth Rs 350 crore to form ‘Blue Jay Aristo Layout’ on Bannerghatta Road in Jayanagar ward under the Chickpet Assembly constituency, in Bengaluru.

Addressing a press conference here, Ramesh said the layout is coming up in survey number 51/1, 51/2, 51/3A, 51/3B and 51/3C of Byrasandra village.

“About 150 acres of government land, spread in 24 different survey numbers, have been mutated. Among them, parts of survey number 51, is a lake land. It is the Byrasandra lake. The layout has been formed by illegally occupying it,” said Ramesh.

He said Bismillanagar near the Blue Jay Aristo Layout is also on the Byrasandra lake. He alleged that a complaint has been already lodged against the minister for grabbing hundreds of acres of Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple land in Tavarekere hobli on the outskirts of the city.

The BJP leader demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should immediately remove Krishnappa from the Cabinet and ensure a fair investigation into the case. He said the district administration should enquire into the matter and initiate action against the officers involved in the fraud.

Ramesh said he has already complained to the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force and the Special Court for Government Land Grabbing cases.

Commotion at presser

The executive director of the Blue Jay Aristo Layout project R Dayananda along with his lawyer Aravind Patil and a ‘social worker’ Chikka Thimmaiah were present in the press conference in the guise of reporters.

When the press conference was in progress, Dayananda and others stood up seeking explanation from Ramesh. They said the BJP leader was twisting the facts and making malicious allegation against Krishnappa and farmers who legally own the land in Byrasandra as well as in Tavarekere hobli. Later, the trio was asked to vacate the place.

Speaking to reporters outside the venue of the press conference, Dayananda said, “Survey number 19/2 and 51/2 entirely belongs to Krishnappa and there are no controversies pertaining to it. We have documents to prove it. We will file a defamation case against Ramesh. ”

Mangaluru, Dec 2: Mangaluru International Airport responded to a medical emergency late on Monday night. Air India Express flight IX 522, travelling from Riyadh to Thiruvananthapuram, was diverted to Mangaluru Airport after a passenger in his late 30s experienced a medical emergency on board.

The Airport’s Operations Control Centre received an alert regarding the passenger’s health condition. The airport activated its emergency response protocol, mobilising the airport medical team and coordinating with stakeholders including CISF, immigration, and customs.

Upon landing, airport medical personnel attended to the passenger, assessed his condition, and arranged to shift him to a local tertiary-care hospital for further treatment. The passenger’s relatives accompanied the passenger, who incidentally received necessary medical care on board, which helped stabilise the situation.

Following the handling of the emergency, the flight departed for Thiruvananthapuram at 2:05 am on Tuesday.

"We appreciate the cooperation of all parties involved, and this incident reaffirms our ongoing commitment to prioritising passenger safety and readiness to respond to unforeseen emergencies with professionalism and care," the Airport spokesperson said.

Mangaluru, Dec 3: A group of Congress workers gathered at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday to welcome AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, but the reception quickly turned into a display of support for Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

Venugopal arrived in the city to participate in the centenary commemoration of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Narayana Guru. The event, organised by the Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala, in association with the Mangalore University Sri Narayana Guru Study Chair, is being held on the university’s Konaje campus.

KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai and several party workers had assembled at the airport to receive Venugopal. However, the moment he stepped out, workers began raising slogans backing Shivakumar.

The university programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

This show of support comes just a day after Siddaramaiah remarked that Shivakumar would lead the government “when the high command decides.” The chief minister made the comment after a breakfast meeting at Shivakumar’s residence—another public display of camaraderie between the two leaders amid ongoing attempts by the party high command to downplay their leadership rivalry.

Udupi: The pontiffs of Sri Paryaya Puttige Mutt, the sacred seat of Jagadguru Shrimad Madhvacharya Moola Samsthanam, have submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister seeking comprehensive development for Udupi district.

Proposal for International Airport

A key request is the establishment of an international airport. Highlighting that around 1,000 acres of land are available and suitable, the pontiffs noted that the existing Mangalore Airport provides limited international connectivity. They suggested the airport be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) or as a Greenfield Airport to boost trade, education, healthcare, and spiritual tourism.

Metro and Rapid Transit Connectivity

The proposal also calls for Metro Rail or Rapid Transit between Mangaluru and Udupi. The 55 km coastal stretch experiences heavy daily commuter traffic, causing congestion. The district administration is ready to prepare an initial project report for a Mass Rapid Transit corridor and requested inclusion under national urban mobility programmes to ensure safe, green, and time-efficient regional transport.

Port and Coastal Development

The pontiffs urged the development of an international-standard port with a cruise terminal along Udupi’s coast. They also requested fast-tracking of pending coastal tourism projects and revising Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms to encourage sustainable infrastructure and hospitality investment.

IT, AI and Technological Infrastructure

Support was sought for an IT and AI Innovation Park with incubation facilities under Digital India and Startup India initiatives. The proposal also emphasized the need for strengthened data security and cloud computing infrastructure to boost India’s technological independence.

Sports and Education Initiatives

The pontiffs requested national sports status for Kambala, along with financial and infrastructure support. They also sought the establishment of an AIIMS in Udupi, a new IIT campus, and approval for an IIM to promote higher education in the district.

Representation to the Prime Minister

Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Pontiff and Sri Sushrendra Tirtha Swamiji represented the pontiffs in submitting the comprehensive development proposal to the Prime Minister during his recent visit.
