Bengaluru, May 23: Several leaders and activists of Campus Front of India courted arrest during a protest on Tuesday morning in the city against the decision of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to ban headscarves inside the medical entrance examination hall.

Mohammed Tafseer, the Karnataka state president of CFI is also among those detained. The protesters, who had gathered in front of the Gandhi statue in Bengaluru, were raising slogans against the controversial dress code, when they were dragged and dumped into a police van.
They were taken to the jurisdictional police station from where they are expected to be released soon.
The AIIMS entrance exam is due to be held on 28th May, 2017. Prohibition of headgear and scarves for candidates appearing for the MBBS entrance exam as per the admit card issued by AIIMS has triggered widespread controversy, as Muslim girls consider wearing headscarf as their religious right.
Calling the unexpected ban on headscarves as the violation of the right to religious freedom guaranteed through Article 25, the protesters demanded withdrawal of the ban. More details awaited.
