Mangaluru, Dec 5: Traffic on the busy National Highway 66 was disrupted at Panambur on the outskirts of the city on Thursday after city bus rammed into a KSRTC Volvo bus off the KIOCL Ltd bus stop. At least two passengers sustained injuries in the accident.
The city bus was plying to Jokatte from state bank bus terminus while the Volvo was heading to Manipal.
The accident took place in the haste shown by the city bus driver to overtake the KSRTC bus, said Gopalakrishna Bhat, police sub-inspector, Mangaluru City Traffic Police, adding a case has been registered against him. The rear of the KSRTC Volvo bus and the front side of the city side was badly damaged in the incident.
S Chandrashekar, divisional traffic officer, KSRTC Mangaluru division said the loss to KSRTC Volvo Bus will be assessed once police release the vehicle and insurance amount claimed from owner of the city bus. Chandrashekar said the passengers on board the Volvo bus were accommodated in another bus and sent to Manipal and their destinations.
KSRTC has been operating Volvo buses to Manipal for the past 2-1/2 years and this is just the second incident where one of its buses has been involved in an accident, Chandrashekar said.
