Kasaragod, May 20: Prohibitory orders have been promulgated in Manjeswar, Kasaragod, and Hosdurg taluk limits in the district on in view of escalating violence in some parts of the district.
“The week-long prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were clamped to ward off untoward incidents after sporadic incidents of violence were reported in Kasaragod, and Kanhangad on Thursday afternoon, triggering panic among the floating population,” District Collector E. Devadasan said.
In another development, sitting CPI legislator in Kanhangad, E. Chandrasekharan, suffered injuries on his hand after some BJP workers allegedly threw stones at him at Mavungal near Kanhangad as he was taking part in a road show following his victory.
The miscreants also threw stones at a KSRTC bus in the locality. Mr. Chandrasekharan later underwent treatment at a private hospital in Kanhangad.
Several people, including policemen, were injured in group clashes involving BJP and IUML workers at Karanthakkad here, forcing the authorities to promulgate prohibitory orders.
In a spate incident, two CPI(M) workers were injured in an attack, allegedly by a group of BJP activists, at Mavungal, on Thursday. The incident occurred when the workers were moving on a motorbike flaunting party flags.
