Bantwal, Oct 4: A 30-year-old youth was killed when a speeding bus rammed into his motorbike on National Highway 234 at Manihalla near Bantwal on Tuesday.

The victim, Sushanth Rai, son of Janardan Rai from Pilathettu village in the taluk, was heading to Dharmasthala on some work when the tragedy occurred.
It is learnt that the driver of the bus belonging to Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Ltd, which was plying towards Mangaluru from Dharmasthala was trying to overtake another vehicle.
At Manihalla, the driver lost patience and took to the extreme right in his overtake bid. In the melee he rammed into the oncoming two-wheeler and dragged it on the road for a few meters. The driver and the conductor of the bus fled the spot after the mishap.
Rai, who was in an extremely critical condition, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment by the local residents. However, he breathed his last even before reaching there.
The tragedy sparked a flash protest on the spot. Dozens of local residents blocked the road for sometime demanding immediate arrest of the killer driver and stern action against him.
Meanwhile, Bantwal Rural SI A K Rakshit Gowda, Town SI Nandakumar, Traffic SI Chandrashekharaiah rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by dispersing the angry mob.
Rai was working for Hindustan Soap Private Ltd in Bantwal. He married last year and his wife is now eight months pregnant. The untimely death of the youth has completely shattered his family.

Now on ksrtc bus drivers should be manhandled on the spot itself....they have no single penny to lose......so they are more careless..
