Mangaluru, Dec 28: Karnataka Bank's Alake branch in the city caught fire on Tuesday night destroying computers, documents, furniture and electronic equipment.
Though the bank suffered a considerable loss in the mishap, fortunately, the fire did not spread to the locker area. No casualties were reported as the incident happened after the banking hours.
Police sources said that the fire broke out at the reception area and other sections of the front office of the bank. It is suspected that an electrical short circuit might be the reason for the fire.
The branch was closed and staffs had left the premises when the incident happened.
Police sources said that neighbours and people in nearby business establishments also realised the fire incident very late as the bank branch is located on the first floor of a building. Nearly 70 per cent of the front office area is learnt to have been destroyed in fire.
However, fire has not spread to the locker area. An FIR will be registered at Mangaluru North Police, sources added.

Dear Mr. Mohammed Asif , if u are sitting in advanced technical country and talk about new technology for india? dear it will take more than 50 years to improve our country just read the news and keep quiet I suggest.
Always prevention is better than cure. Y cant public service office can take extra precaution to prevent this kind of damages, it might be causalities in some cases. So its better, all public servants office shall have such type of fire extinguisher that can start to extinguish automatically when there is fire and relevant authority to conduct inspection in initial stage prior to give approval for office and even periodical inspection also required by the office competent team and authority . Just its my opinion.
