Mangaluru, Jun 25: Airports Authority of India (AAI) together with Cargo Service Center (CSC) commissioned the ‘Common User Domestic Cargo Terminal’ (CUDCT) by Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) by Airport Director J T Radhakrishnan in the airport premises at Kenjar on Thursday.

Cargo Service Center Pvt Limited, Mumbai will handle the total domestic cargo operations on behalf of the AAI for a total of 30 flights including 15 arrivals and 15 departures at the international airport from Friday onwards.
CSC India is renowned for offering air cargo handling services to globally reputed international and domestic airlines at around 24 locations across the country. Founded in India in 1995, the CSC Groups handles and supervises nearly 5,00,000 metric tons of air cargo annually and handles approximately 18 percent of the total air cargo handling in the country at present.
Speaking in the inaugural ceremony, Mr Radhakrishnan said that the commencement of operations at the domestic cargo terminal was a milestone for the airport, which had been set up in record time after the project was approved. The terminal, which will be used to handle air cargo operations for a total of 30 flights at the airport, will increase revenue for the airport and airline services. The air cargo handling services should trickle down even to tier-2 cities in the country to provide revenue and improve services to the industry, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of CSC India Tushar Jani said that the new domestic cargo terminal would result in reducing transit time for cargo, keeping in mind the safety, security and quality of cargo at the airport. The handling of domestic cargo will go 100 percent higher at Mangaluru International Airport in a year’s time, he assured, adding that the domestic e-commerce sector was rapidly growing and handling of domestic air cargo would also increase annually.
He said that with the growth in air cargo, the capacity of airlines needed to increase and bigger aircrafts should be brought in for better handling of the cargo.
President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Mangaluru Nigam B Vasani said that the new domestic cargo terminal would help in the economic growth of cargo at the airport and proposed the AAI to establish an airport Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for aircraft maintenance-repair and overall business opportunities at the international airport in Mangaluru.
President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Udupi Srikrishna Kodancha also spoke on the occasion. General Manager of CSC India Gurmeet Kalra, MIA officials and representatives of airline services were present during the inaugural ceremony.
